In our current educational system, learners are required to write essays, compositions, and reports as part of the school’s requirements. But more often than not, teachers do not have the incentive to correct the learner’s writing output because they are primarily paid based on an hourly basis that excludes the tedious and time-consuming work of evaluation, analysis, correction, and editing of the learner’s paper.
Thus, teachers prefer to give examination papers that require fill in the blank, enumeration, true or false, multiple choice and identification to essay types because composition writing requires enormous time and energy to evaluate it. This situation gives rise to the inability of learners to overcome writing challenges or improve his present skills because as the saying goes, “Only that which is expected is inspected”. Simply put, if the teacher fails to evaluate, analyze, and correct the learner’s writing output because there is no payment for doing the job, then, no learning will take place.
